The Devyrs

Dragon's Valour Company

The Devyrs are a mercenary company brought together by Flikk and Vikktor, originally for the express purpose of hunting down their betrayer and bringing him to justice. Time and distance, however, have dulled Flikk's overwhelming desire to hunt the man down, and now the Devyrs serve as mercenaries to whoever needs them... for a price, of course.

Their current employer is Clan Akelara, much to the disgruntlement of many Myrsilk residents, and the war is shaping up to be a long, involved thing with no end in sight. Still, the Devyrs have their pride, and they refuse to reenge on their contract simply because they bit off more than they could chew. It's Flikk's belief that the war can be won, and will be won, and his optimism in the face of adversity has held the Company together where others would have broke and fled.

The Company itself is relatively small, consisting of the original twelve members, five new-comers, and one recruit. Originally divided into two groups - the Warriors and the Specialists, each with their own distinct role - the Company is slowly evolving to have a third group, the Shields, due to the pressure the war is placing upon them.

Warriors are the front liners, the ones who rely upon their strength, skill, and weapons to get them through a battle safe. Adept at fighting in any form they possess, the Warriors are a formidable force to be reckoned with on their own. Lately, however, they've been feeling a bit helpless in the face of the Slinkers that have been attacking, as none of them have the speed to meet a Slinker face to face.

Specialists, on the other hand, are the magic users of the Company, though many of them are equally adept at physical fighting as they are with magic. In the normal way of things, Specialists would tend to act as Warriors, conserving their magical strength for times and places where it would best be used, but lately that has fallen by the wayside in favor of using their magic at every opportunity. Not out of any desire to exhaust themselves or flaunt their strength, but because the Slinkers are too difficult to kill by any other means.

Shields are a new concept, and one that Tajakith is pushing for as gently as possible so as to not upset either Flikk or Vikktor, the two senior Captains of the Company. Having seen the exhaustion stalking the Specialists, and Flikk in particular, Tajakith decided to question the idea of pairs of fighters. His concept - add a third to the pairs, who compliments the strengths and weaknesses of the two in the established pair. In this manner, an extra set of paws (or hands) could be added without the necessity of calling in an off-duty pair.
